Description of soul exchange: Select 1 monster your opponent controls. This turn, if you would Tribute a monster you control. Tribute the selected monster instead. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase during the turn that you activate this card.
"This turn, if you would tribute a monster you control, tribute the selected monster instead." Where it says "if you would tribute a monster you control", does that mean you have to have a monster on your field to use this card? |

no, it means that you when you have to tribute, instead of using a monster you have, you can use your opponents monster, example, you have summoned skull in your hand. you have a clear field. you can use soul exchange to tribute your opponents monster to summon it.
